The birth place of Old Kapunda Distillery is located one hours drive north of Adelaide in South Australia. Its home is situated on rich loamy soils found on the lush plains that border The Barossa Valley, one of Australia’s premier wine regions.
With over half a century of experience in the wine industry, The Kennelly Family set about crafting distinctive and innovative fortified wine.
In 1996, the construction of a massive 12 meter, purpose-built structure commenced on the family’s 200 acre property. Design took into account native flora and fauna and to this day, the distillery can be found nestled amongst 100 year-old eucalyptus trees and native grasses.
Their first fortified wine Yellow Diamond, celebrated first release was in 1996 and immediately found acclaim with the Japanese market. Made from premium Barossa Valley Spanish Palomino it is selectively aged in French Oak . Its rich amber colour and ripe aromatic fruit make for a full bodied dessert wine.
Old Kapunda Distillery’s range grew with the introduction of three port styles: Select; Palomino; and Ruby, each with their own individual quality. Estate grown Liqueur Muscat quickly followed, as did Pineau Rouge, the newest in the product range.
Principally, by selecting the best in French, Portuguese and Australian styles and sourcing the very best fruit from their estate and the Barossa Valley wine region, Old Kapunda Distillery has created a range of fortified wines that will tickle the neophytic drinker and easily satisfy the more progressive palate.
The fierce silver stag that adorns an Old Kapunda Distillery quality product, is taken from The Kennelly Family’s Irish Crest.
